xmas in the city (the sequel)

I am spending my Christmas here in the big city for the second time… another year away from my family, away from home. For a year now, I have always considered Antipolo my home away from home… well, how about the condo? Hmmm… the condo is our house… nothing beats the home back in Naga or at Antipolo…

Nevertheless, this Christmas is gonna be something different… I hope… for one thing, the sisterhood is complete once again. We all have each other this Christmas! Fun! I’m looking forward to home-cooked meals and gift giving on Christmas Eve!

This year has been a great year, regardless of the obstacles I’ve been through lately… I have traveled and gotten to different places in the country, living my brother’s dream… and I’ve realized who my real friends are… falling out is such a bittersweet thing… but we all have to move on… I partied like there’s no tomorrow… been such a party girl lately… but I partied because I need to unwind… the need to get my mind off work for a change is such a relief… I feel like I’m in high school once again, where all we worry is our space on the dance floor and that’s just about it… haha!

I’ve done so much shopping that gave me a bit of a fever after calculating all my expenses! Whew! I’ve spent way too much on gifts compared last year! Ay-yayay! Come 2008, I’ll be flat broke! Not a good sign to start the new year. Tsk… tsk… nevertheless, it will all be worth it for those lucky ones I’ll be giving gifts to. I have a good reason to splurge!

a christmas gathering

‘Twas the 20^th of December, and the COSS Angels finally converged once again for a simple Christmas gathering – a dinner at Pasto in Theatre Mall Greenhills… In attendance were Deene, Ye, Che, Ann, and me… we’re not complete since some of our blockmates had other engagements to attend to…

I missed them! I haven’t seen them in months! Last time we were all together was back in August, when we hit Redbox and showed off our vocal prowess! It was one of the best times I had with them! Haha! I really miss our college years! Can we all go back to that?! Back where we only worry about our projects not rent and utility bills… If only we could… I can only wish…

Now, Che… my mommie… I haven’t seen her in years! It felt like years! But she hasn’t changed a bit! She still hits/slaps like a mad person! Hehe! I think I got a real good beating from her… same old Che! Do remind me next time not to sit beside her okay? Or else I’ll end up in bruises… hehe!

Jho… mommie Jho is in Macau… off to that greener pasture… we all wish her luck! May she find that great job and help us all out right after! Hehe! We miss you Jho!

Emz… she couldn’t make it because of a company party… she’ll be performing so she can’t make it… too bad! She could have shared with us her life stories… and her life with… ehem… (not disclosing anymore details…hihi…)

Jini… couldn’t grace us with her presence since her mom is in town… she’s spending quality time with the parents so she had to take a rain check on the gathering…

Tisai… now how come she can’t make it again? I have forgotten to ask… but we missed her though…

Ye… still the same… her undying love for good food is still eminent! Though she says she’s on a diet… to which I doubt… haha! Ye, go on a diet after the holidays! After all, this is the season to be merry and to eat all those calories without feeling guilty! Hehe! Come January, a rigid workout routine should be strictly followed! Hehe!

Ann… the first time she was late… coming from both ends of the city… Tsk! Tsk! In return, she paid for dinner… thanks Ann for your generosity! Hehe! She amused us with her jokes though… haha! Most of it were corny but we do appreciate the effort! Hehe!

Deene… still the same… you’ll look good in skinny jeans too! Hehe! Get yourself one! Haha! Thanks to her digicam, we captured every moment! Mini-pictorial at Pasto and at Coffee Bean… haha!

deck the halls

just a few days before christmas and i am stressed from all the last minute shopping of gifts… i am this close from retiring… only one more name on the list and it is my favorite brother… hmpf… kung dai taka lang padangat… since he really like that particular shakespeare and old english stuff… and his fascination with the 'thou' and the 'thee' in between stanzas… i got no choice but to get it for him… for thy love!!!

and aside from all the shopping, there's also the gift wrapping mayhem! the house is overwhelmed with gifts! well most of it are from ariane and raphii though…

and yes… the christmas parties are endless… for this week, i mean for tomorrow, i'm off to promenade for a christmas gathering with my college blockmates, on friday it's the sisterhood/party of five christmas nightout, and on saturday (from which i still don't know if i can attend) it's the F-boys/raphii and his friends house party…

so there you go… the rantings of a self-confessed party girl!

i can't seem to fit everything int  o my schedule! busy.. busy.. talk about hectic party schedules!

the golden compass

The Golden Compass and how it had strung a myriad of controversies.

I happened to see the movie last night with my friends, and it doesn’t really promote atheism or whatever, it is a fictional story, more like the Chronicles of Narnia, with talking animals as your souls or ‘daemons’ as what they call it in the movie.

There is this belief that all human beings have their corresponding daemons, and if they die, their daemons die along with them. The ability of their daemons to morph into something, into a different animal is entirely based on their human counterpart – their strength, their experiences account for what their daemon can turn into. What the daemons feel, their human counterparts feel it too!

And this talk about ‘dust’… I still pretty much didn’t get it… was dust the portal to another world or parallel universe? And why does is it best unmentioned? Hmm… I wonder… It could be that people tend to get greedy over power which would lead to manipulation and all that politics. You know… the fear of having evil rule over the world or the entire universe for that matter.

Why has the movie attracted such controversy? Well, for one thing there wasn’t any mention of a higher being and the idea that your soul is personified with an animal that you can actually talk to and interact with… it is a mere observation, but fiction is still fiction… those are the kind of stories you tell your children before they go to sleep – just like stories of Peter Pan and Neverland, wherein goodness still reigns amidst all the chaos and evil randomness.

After the movie, my friend told me how I was so talkative while watching the movie… Hmm… I was? Hahaha! According to her, my future dates should definitely include movies coz it is the only time I get to talk a whole lot! I didn’t realize that I was such a chatterbox, but truth be told I like to analyze movies, I think I have gotten that habit from my brother… we just love to criticize and resolve mysteries or loopholes in movies, I also like to criticize how the movie is done, the special effects and stuff…

Back to the movie itself,  I like the polar bear, I actually want one! Prince Iorek (not Urich! woops, my bad!) is such a cute polar bear! Hahaha! And the part where he slapped the other polar bear king where it’s jaw literally removed itself from its entire face! I loved it! Hahaha! And Serafina, the queen of the witches, she is a superb archer too! At first I thought she's evil, but she's not… she's actually a good witch. But the movie was open-ended, lots of questions were still formulating in my head, and then there goes the credits… poof! The End… could there be a sequel? I wonder…

b.r.o.k.e.

december finally made its way… and so far, i am broke from all the christmas shopping i have been doing for the passed two weeks or rather weekends… after all, it is the season of giving… how i wish my fairy godmothers and godfathers refill my empty pockets! <sigh…>

and i am still not finished with it! my list is still a long way from being done, there's still a whole lot of names waiting to be scratched out or having an 'x' mark over them… but i am pretty sure, lucky loved ones who will be receiving gifts from me will be happy… they better be! that's like sweat, blood, and tears! uh-huh… if not, then no gifts for them next year! haha! that'll be good news for me! haha!

so far, the men in my life still need their gifts… my fa-dear, my bruders… the list goes on! 

i realized that, once you get to have your own job, and earning your own money, the list of people that would be receiving presents from you seems to lengthen every year! whoa! over kill! your salary  just touches a few seconds of your palm and poof! it's gone! but seeing the looks on their faces once they open their gifts are PRICELESS! so that makes me feel better! it's like giving back to them and showing them my appreciation of being a part of my life! <drama mode.. sheesh..> 

worse case scenario: i'll be doing last minute shopping before going home to nagaland! ay-yayay! 

i do hope i get to receive lots of presents too! cam'an! cam'an!
